I dont know if you remember when i told you guys about going to school for daniel statement appoinntment and for the specialist there to tell me my son had a brain deformancy and we knew nothing about this not even school not my own doctors just wigan infirmary.
well i went through all the process of finding medical records and finally got yesterday and i have read it all and yes he dose have it and from birth.
well we have allready refered him to manchester cause i am not happy that we know nothing as his parents and he goes 18th feb and i am hoping i can request all tests again as i dont know weather to trust wigan now, but i am now stuck in limbo i dont know what to do cause school have said they could have got help for him from school from day one instead of the last couple years cause my child is that fair behind now that he cant catch up and i know it only school work at end day but it affects him mentally when he is left behind, has anyone ever complained about something like this, i dont really know where to complaine but i think some one should appologise for keeping information about my son away from me.

Dear Tina,

This is shocking! How dare they keep something like that back form you, Daniel's parent. To think that he has lost out in schooling support is very sad. I hope that he will start getting help now.

It sounds as if you need good legal advice as to how you should proceed with this. Citizen's Advice comes to mind perhaps as a starting point.

Hi Tina,
I was thinking the same as Eleanor, you need legal advice for this.
It's disgusting that they have made this diagnosis and not even informed you or your GP.
I wish you luck with it, you have every right to demand an explanation.

Dear T,

It is shocking. I really think you need serious legal advice for this to be resolved properly.

The CAB will help put you in the right direction. You will be entitled to compensation for this lack of care and witholding vital medical records.

Love,

Amanda

Hello Tina,
This is so awful for you and your family,
Usual practice would be to complain either to the provider of the service or to the primary care trust who commission the services, there should also be an independent complaints advocacy service that may be able to support BUT in your circumstances this is not usual complaint situation due to timescales involved and the complaint involved so rather than this option....

I agree with others definitely to seek LEGAL advice first. This is grossly neglectful practice to omit vital information from you, as parents - and for you to have to find out by medical records is completely unacceptable practice and the consequences upon Daniel's school experience.

Citizen Advice is a very good starting point - they have access to solicitors with specific specialisms - I have had really good experience with CAB in the past a few years ago and even though i dont get any benefits at all - all advice including 2 meetings with legal experts were completely free. They helped with understanding systems, letter writing and putting things in perspective - & the emotional support of all this was immense.

As Melly suggests there certainly seems scope for compensation to support Daniel with schooling needs and other support - not to mention the emotional impact upon you and your family,

Thinking of you, Tina and all the best with citizens advice or however you decide t pursue this,

Take care lots of love Liz xxxxx

Hi Tina

This is awful! Surely as parents you have the right to know any health issues affecting Daniel. I'm sorry, I don't really have any advice, beyond what others have said - Citizen's Advice is a very good starting point and they'll advise you on the next step. I'm so sorry, Tina, this must be awful for you, knowing that you could have had help earlier if you'd known all the facts.

This is shocking Tina, and certainly some action needs to be taken. As others have said, perhalps try CAB first, and take it from there.

Hi Tina
If you feel you need to go down the legal route, may I suggest you contact Ann Alexander, the senior partner at Alexander & Co in Altrincham. They are a worldwide firm who specialise in just this kind of case. They acted for the thalidomide Respondents and many more high profile cases. You would need a specialist as opposed to a general lawyer. If you pm me I can give you all the details.

Much love

Hi Tina, I am also shocked to hear this and it's outrageous that such important information has been withheld from you; definitely a case warranting legal assistance and advice on how to proceed.

You could contact the Equality and Human Rights commission they often take up cases free of charge and are very good in dealing with disability issues. http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/

love,

Barbara
